You can book an appointment at our reception desk or by phone, depending on the time you require to be seen, we offer the following services:

1. Medical Centre appointments

The surgery opens between 8.00am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

Patients can ring to make an appointment and specify their preferred Doctor. The first 4 Appointments of a morning surgery can be booked the previous evening by ringing between 5.30pm - 6.00pm. All the remaining morning appointments can be booked by ringing on the morning you wish to attend.

Evening appointments can be booked in advance with the Doctor of your choice.

All appointments are for 10 minutes. If you feel you require longer than this, please ask the Receptionist to book you a double appointment. Please make every effort to attend morning surgery whenever possible.

IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO KEEP YOUR APPOINTMENT, PLEASE LET OUR RECEPTIONIST KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO THAT THE TIME CAN BE OFFERED TO SOMEONE ELSE.

It is our policy to ask you if you would like a chaperone to be present when your consultation requires an initmate examination.

If you need to come to the surgery with a child who may have one of the infectious diseases, e.g. chicken pox, german measles please telephone the receptionists first so that arrangements can be made to isolate your child.

2. Extended hours

Western Cheshire Primary Care Trust has developed a primary care book ahead service for all patients locally. This will be an opportunity to book a routine appointment with a GP or Practice Nurse outside of usual GP practice opening hours.

This will not necessarily be your practice GP but Doctors and Nurses working in the Out of Hours service.

Appointments will be bookable up to two weeks in advance and at least 48 hours in advance.

Clinics are available at:

St Martins Clinic Chester (and Ellesmere Port Hospital)

Helsby Health Centre

The Rookery Tattenhall

Mon-Fri: 6.30pm to 8pm
Sat: 10am to 12noon

Mon-Tue: 6.30pm to 8pm

Wed: 6.30pm to 8pm
Sat: 10am to 12noon

Doctors and Practice Nurses will have limited access to patient clinical notes and will not provide chronic disease management, childhood vaccinations and IUCD (coil) fitting.

Patients requiring an appointment can ring between 8am and 6pm on 01244 385 422.

This is a new service and will not replace existing services for our patients who need to see a GP on the day or in advance or need a GP when the surgery is closed.

3. Out of Hours

If you have a medical issue that cannot wait until the surgery is open then you can call the 'out-of-hours' service who will be able to help you over the phone or arrange a visit. Please ring the surgery number 01829 751252 and your call will be diverted to the service or ring the service directly on 01244 385300.

NHS Direct

You can also call NHS Direct for advice on 0845 4647 or you can visit the web site at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk

Home visits

If you are too ill to attend our surgery and require a home visit, please try to request one as early as possible.

The receptionist will ask for some details about the request call.

Please remember that a Doctor can typically see up to 6 patients in the time it takes to make one house call. Patients can be examined more thoroughly in the surgery so please keep house calls for urgent matters only.

Telephone consultations

Telephone consultations are available with a Doctor or Nurse if you feel that your problem can be dealt with over the phone. Please ensure that your problem is suitable for a telephone consultation and ask the receptionist to arrange a telephone consultation for you.

Late arrivals

We are unable to see patients who arrive late for their appointments without any form of prior explanation. It is Practice policy if you arrive late for your appointment you will have to re-book.

Cancellation

If you are unable to keep a booked appointment with either a Doctor or Nurse then please cancel the appointment giving enough time to allow us to offer it to someone else. Not attending an appointment disadvantages others and makes waiting for an appointment longer.

Test results and investigations

Please ring the surgery between 10.00 and 3.00pm, Monday to Friday.

Consultant / Hospital appointments

If you need hospital treatment then as part of the choose and book initiative we can offer you a choice of hospitals and you are able to choose the date and time of your appointment.

If you would like a copy of the letter the Doctor sends to the Consultant please advise the Doctor when they refer you.
